Amidst the many imposing Pala peaks, the Cima della Madonna stands out particularly from San Martino di Castrozza. It towers high and steep above the valley and all too often wears a veil of clouds.
As early as 1920, Gunther Langes had the courage to tackle the steep northwest ridge—without realizing that the fantastically grippy Pala rock would offer what is arguably one of the most beautiful climbing routes in the Dolomites at this level of difficulty. Every repeating climber is fortunate enough to experience much more than pure pleasure climbing, thanks to the Rifugio del Velo and the secluded rocky landscape.
