The Pichl Route, first climbed in 1918 by Eduard Pichl and Rolf Weizer, leads through the 1,000 m high Northeast Face of the Sassolungo and is undoubtedly one of the most famous and fascinating big wall climbs in the entire Dolomites. The rock is mostly excellent, and combined with characteristic pitches in chimneys, slabs, cracks, and corners, it makes the climb over nearly 30 pitches extremely varied. It is remarkable how well one can navigate this steep face at a grade IV level. The long ascent, combined with the intricate descent of the Langkofel, makes this a full-day tour that demands considerable endurance and climbing skill. Those who are up to the length and moderate technical difficulty will be rewarded with a truly special mountain experience. Let one of our Catores mountain guides accompany you and climb the longest route on our local mountains.
Guided by a certified IFMGA mountain guide
Experience in the Dolomites is a prerequisite for the Pichl route. Even though the technical climbing difficulty is not very high, it is a very long tour where climbing quickly and safely is essential.
We recommend a "warm-up" tour before attempting this route. This allows the mountain guide to assess your skills and gives you both a chance to get to know each other before tackling this major Dolomite classic.
