The Cima del Catinaccio is an impressive Dolomite peak that catches the eye immediately from the valley. From Bolzano, it stands enthroned alongside the striking Vajolet Towers; from the Fassa Valley, it impresses with its 600-meter-high east face. Cima del Catinaccio rightly bears the name of the majestic Catinaccio massif, which borders the Val Gardena to the south. The Normal Route, following the footsteps of the first conquerors from 1874, starts from the Santnerpass Hut. It leads through solid rock and offers steep, grippy climbing up to Grade III. The ascent begins through steep chimneys and, after reaching the notch, becomes easier as it follows the ridge to the summit (2,981 m). From the top, you can enjoy stunning views of the Marmolada, the Sassolungo Group, and the Brenta Dolomites.

From the Frommer Alm, the lifts provide a comfortable ride up to the Rifugio Fronza alle Coronelle. From there, the trail leads via the Santnerpass via ferrata to the Santnerpass Hut, where the start of the Normal Route is reached in just a short time. The climb, set in prime Dolomite rock, covers approximately 300 meters of climbing to the summit. The descent is managed by a combination of rappelling and down-climbing along the route of ascent.
The Normal Route of the Cima del Catinaccio can be perfectly combined with an overnight stay at the wonderfully located Santnerpass Hut. Perched in a spectacular position, the hut offers the ideal base for an early start on the rock.
